Dr. Walter S. DeKeseredy (Ph.D. York University, 1988) is Professor of Criminology, Justice, and Policy Studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. His research focuses on woman abuse, crime in public housing, and criminological theory. His recent books include Violence Against Women: Facts, Myths and Controversies (University of Toronto Press 2011), Contemporary Critical Criminology(Routledge 2010), Advancing Critical Criminology: Theory and Application, co-edited with Barbara Perry (Lexington Books 2006), and Under Siege: Poverty and Crime in a Public Housing Community, co-authored with Martin Schwartz, Shahid Alvi, and E. Andreas Tomaszewski (Lexington Books 2006). In 2004, he was co-recipient, with Martin Schwartz, of The Distinguished Scholar Award from the American Society of Criminology's Division on Women and Crime. He was the co-recipient of UOIT's first Research Excellence Award, which was granted in the fall of 2007. Most recently, Dr. DeKeseredy was awarded the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Criminology's Division on Critical Criminology.
