Valerie Wright (M.A. The Ohio State University, 2002; B.A Savannah State University, 1996) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at Ohio State. She works at the Center as a graduate research associate. Her current work examines whether the length of time on death row influences deterrence, that is, do swifter executions deter more homicides than executions with a long wait on death row. Her research interests also include crime and policy evaluation, inequalities in the criminal justice system, gender differences in criminal onset and desistance, juvenile desistance and youth violence prevention, and the health of religiously-active minority youth.
