Inserting an International Character or Symbol:
- Find the keystrokes that correspond to the desired symbol in the desired
font. To do this:
- Double-click the character map icon in Accesories & Productivity
Tools
- set the font to the desired font
- click on the desired symbol
- in the lower right-hand corner you will see the necessary keystroke(s)
- Go to the location in the program you're working in (Excel,Word, Visio,
or what-have-you) where the special symbol should be inserted and change
the font at that point to the desired font . Be sure that you are changing
it only for the character you are entering and not for the whole title/legend,
drawing, etc.
- Enter the required keystrokes.
- If this is just a regular key, then this is easy. (E.g. to get an a
with two dots above it the keystroke is @ in WPMultinationalA Roman)
- But some/many of these will be the Alt key plus 4 numbers entered from
the numeric keypad as follows:
- Press the Num Lock key to turn Numeric Lock "ON" for the
keypad
- Hold down the Alt key and enter the 4 numbers from the numeric keypad
- Release the Alt key.
- Press the Num Lock key to turn Numeric Lock "OFF" for the
keypa
- If you have done this correctly you will see the special symbol on
the screen.
