If you want to use Western characters other than English you can do so by selecting the interested language from among the options existing in the Control Panel. To do so:

• Click ‘Start’, then ‘Settings,’ then ‘Control Panel’
• double-click ‘Keyboard’ (w/ Keyboard icon)
• click on "language"
• click "add", scroll down through the options till you find the desired language
• you may add more than one language to your list
• click "OK".

Afterwards, a small blue square should appear in your System Tray. Left-clicking on the square brings up the list of languages. Right-clicking allows you to modify your language list. You move through the list of selected languages using Ctrl+Shift or the left Alt key + shift (you can change this setting in the Keyboard control panel).,
