My Statement of Teaching Philosophy
I have taught Introduction to Sociology (Soc 101), Social Stratification (Soc 463), and Race, Gender, and Class in the Mass Media (Soc 608) as an independent instructor at The Ohio State University.
If you interested in my courses, I have links to past syllabi below:
I am committed to teaching excellence. I am involved in the Sociology Teaching Working Group, a collaborative group dedicated to improve teaching within our department. I have also served as Teaching Committee Chair for the Sociology Graduate Student Association. I proudly won the Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA) for the 2007-2008 school year (after 2 previous nominations) as well as the Teaching Excellence Award in the Sociology Department for the same school year. And, I have been nominated for Outstanding TA and won Honorable Mention for Outstanding Instructor from the Sociology Department.
In addition to teaching and creating materials for my own courses, I worked with Amanda Miller to create ancillary materials for Our Social World by Jeanne Ballantine and Keith Roberts. You can see some of our work on the student study site.
