Sociology 651:
Approaches to Sociological Inquiry
Spring 2003
Dr. Randy Hodson
Presentation
Topic:
My pedagogical presentation will be on Cross-National Comparative Research, Analysis, and Methodology. I will be presenting information that will enhance our understanding of what is involved in cross-national comparative analysis as well as why researchers are interested in this particular methodology. I will discuss such issues as comparability and equivalence as well as various approaches to comparative analysis. I hope to also address challenging questions involved in this methodological style including the advantages and disadvantages of this approach. I hope to also provide examples of cross-country comparative research as well examples of data sets that are often used in this type of research.
Note: I am most willing to collaborate with other students who may be interested in this subject as their pedagogical project so as not to be redundant. I am aware that Min Zhou may be covering this topic as well, but she may be going in a different direction that what I have described.
