Are you
Ready to Graduate?
Step 1 See an advisor in our
department to verify your major. If you are completing one major or a
major/minor combination in our department, the Degree Audit Report (DAR) will
accurately reflect your major approval. However, if you are completing a double
major in Sociology and Criminology, the DAR is not capable of correctly dividing
the two majors. You must meet with an academic advisor to map out which
courses count toward each major. As always, if there is any confusion, or
if you would just like a confirmation, please meet with
us.
Remember:
- You must complete 45 credit
hours in Sociology/Criminology coursework including SOC 487, 488, &
549
- You must have received a C- or
higher in all of these major courses.
- Independent Studies hours (SOC
693) do not count toward the major unless you have received permission prior
to enrolling
- Internships (SOC 489) do not
count toward the major
- Your major GPA must be 2.00 or
above
Step
2 If you are working on a Minor, see the appropriate department to
obtain a Minor Program Form.
Remember
- Some departments allow GEC
courses to overlap, check with each department to determine their
policy
- A grade of C- or higher is
required in all minor course work
- All minors require a minimum of
20 credit hours, some require more. You must check with an advisor to
determine your minor’s specific requirements.
- Some, but not all minors are now
on the DAR and will be officially approved via the DAR
Step 3 Make an
appointment with an advisor in Undergraduate Student Academic Services (Denney
Hall) 614/292-6961 to file your application to graduate. Take any paperwork that
you have received from departmental advisors to the appointment. Filing
the application officially puts you on the list of graduates for the appropriate
quarter. The USAS advisor will run your official degree audit and confirm
exactly what needs to be completed to graduate.
Remember
- You must have an overall GPA of
2.00 or above in all OSU course work to graduate
- All requested petitions must be
reviewed and processed prior to graduation
- All incomplete grades must be
finalized
- If you alter your course plans
after applying to graduate, you must submit a revised application to
graduate
- If there are discrepancies
between your actual schedule and your projected schedule on your application
to graduate, Graduation Services will contact you for explanation and to
direct you to rectify the situation.
Step 4 You will receive
information from the ASC Graduation Office during your quarter of graduation
regarding caps and gowns, announcements, and graduation rehearsal. This
information is sent late in the quarter, usually by the 7th week. General
information about graduation can be found at: http://commencement.osu.edu/
