Student Involvement

"As a fifth year senior, I have had several years to explore many of the clubs and organizations that are offered here at Ohio State. I started getting involved my sophomore year and things took off from there. I quickly learned that when you get involved on campus, even in the smallest way, it is very easy to move up to a leadership position and soon enough you find yourself meeting people all over campus, (faculty, staff and students), networking left and right, gaining skills that will be extremely beneficial throughout your college career as well as after graduation and just having a good time. If you are the kind of person who likes to be involved, stay busy or just meet new people, let me share some great organizations with you that are worth looking into."

"One of the first organizations I joined was the Undergraduate Student Government’s Diversity Committee. I will admit I was a little intimidated by USG as a freshman but once I became an active member of Diversity Committee they didn't seem as scary. Diversity Committee helped me expand my knowledge on cultures outside of my own as well as meet and develop friendships with people I might never have talked to otherwise. It helped me get my foot in the door to a great leadership opportunity. After being a member of the committee for three years I applied to be one of the Directors of the committee and spent the last year as a Co-Director of USG’s Diversity Committee and a Cabinet member of Undergraduate Student Government. My involvement with USG was a great way to gain experience in politics, programming, marketing and communication. It also offered me the opportunity to be asked to be on several planning and policy committees across campus."

"I decided not to spend all my time in just one organization, so I branched out and was also involved in Sociology Club and Psychology Club. I started off as a Psychology/Criminology major here at OSU and thought my involvement in these clubs would be beneficial to my development in my majors. Being involved in any club or organization that is related to your major or minor is a great way to find people taking the same classes, set up study groups, find out what other people want to do with their majors, offers support, holds programs that help you get a better understanding of what you want to do and what you might not want to do. You can't go wrong in those organizations."

"I also decided to become an active member in GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) organizations on campus. I am an active member of the Speakers Bureau, which allows me to go around to different classes and events on campus and make presentations on GLBT issues and awareness on campus, which has been an exceptionally rewarding experience. Whether you are a member of the GLBT community or an ally it is a great program offered through GLBT Student Services. I have been an active member of the planning committee for several events put on by GLBT Student Services and have attended conferences and training sessions for free because of my involvement in these organizations."

"Every single organization I have been a part of and event I have attended at Ohio State has helped me develop numerous skills that I believe will help me immensely when I graduate from this University. I feel like I have accomplished something in my time here and made some kind of contribution, and that is a good feeling."

"If you have any questions/concerns/comments feel free to email me."
